Marshmello is on a roll this month! Two weeks ago he released a video for ‘Flashback’, a song off his 2018 album Joytime II. Just last week he released a video for another Joytime II track, ‘Stars’. Today he released a video for the popular single featuring singer-songwriter Bastille titled, ‘Happier’.
The video follows a girl through the years as she deals with the struggles of love, loss, and rejection throughout life. It plays out much like the lyrics of the song itself which describes making sacrifices for the sake of making one happier in the end. The teenage version of the girl is played by iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove.
Marshmello provides a bittersweet message in the description explaining his inspiration behind the song:
When @bastilledan sent me happier for the first time I was taken back. The amount of emotion that you could feel in the lyrics was crazy. As I listened to the song more and more it reminded me of so many things I’ve been through in my life. Toxic relationships, letting go of things I didn’t want to and just situations where happiness came with a sacrifice. Recently I lost my best friend, my companion, my life long friend. I wanted this video to embrace the pain that we feel losing or sacrificing something and the cycle of life that comes with it. I hope this song and video can bring closure in any situation you may be and make us all happier.
